The 20,628-sf site is situated on 3 combined lots along the western side of Martel Avenue near Santa Monica Boulevard. Nestled within a predominantly residential neighborhood, this project is one of the first large scale multi-family developments in this neighborhood; the proposed design was challenged with the task of celebrating the existing conditions while enduring the anticipated development of the neighborhood. By incorporating many dwelling sizes from 1-bedrooms to 3-bedroom townhomes, the proposed project can house a variety of household sizes. Units are arranged around a central courtyard and are accessed by an exterior corridor. The street side quarter of the building is depressed to allow for double height living spaces within the townhome units here. The exterior is wrapped in a mixture of specialty finish plasters and wood slatted openings with dripping greenery.
